The Senckenberg Museum - one of the largest Natural History Museums in Germany - exhibits the evolution of life and its recent biodiversity.
Beside the innumerable, unique exhibits of mammals, insects and fishes especially the abandoned dinosaurs inspire young and old visitors. Changing special exhibitions make every visit at the Senckenbeg Museum unique. Immerse yourself into primitive times!
The dinosaurs on display at the Senckenberg Museum did not all live at the same time. The age of the dinosaurs - the earth's middle era - is divided into three sections: Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous.
These four-legged titans lived some 150 million years ago. The youngest period in the earth's middle age - Cretaceous - is charactarized bz the enormous diversity of the dinosaur species. It was the time, for example that the legendary Tyrannosaurus rex and our museum's own 'heraldic' symbol, the three-horned dinosaur Triceratops, roamed the earth.
The avian dinosaurs on display also date back to the Cretaceous period, which ended more than 66 million years ago with a mass extinction of species.
Learn about human evolution. Find out more about the most complex organism on our planet at the section 'Human'. One of the highlights will be the 'tangible' and 'walkable' presentation of the latest brain research findings, which is created with the support of the Hertie Foundation.
Ever wondered how much a dinosaur weights or how sharp shark teeth are? Would you rather do your own research? Then grab a 'research box' and approach natural history phenomena step by step.
In the afternoon you may enjoy a stroll in Frankfurt, known for it's exceptional art and history museums, impressive skyscrapers and it's premier pedestrian promenade, which ranks amongst Germany's most profitable shopping streets.
