Llama Trekking – Fun for everyone

We will start the day with a visit of Germany’s biggest camel farm. You will get a glimpse into the world of llamas, alpacas, bactrian camels and dromedaries. The owner of this place will give you some information about the keeping and the usefulness of llamas. After this short introduction you will have the opportunity to experience the animals in the fields. Then the llamas will get groomed and saddled with panniers. Now we will go for a walk with the llamas for approximately one hour around the valley.
After the little hike there is a lunch buffet waiting for you.

Good to know: You can’t ride on a llama. Unlike a horse it cannot withstand the weight of a person directly on its spine. While they are bred for carrying cargo, the weight of their packs are well distributed.

Thus fortified we will board the bus and continue to the Open Air Museum. At the Open Air Museum you will see how the population in Rhineland Palatinate lived and worked in the country during the last five centuries. Almost 40 historical buildings were taken apart, transported and rebuilt stone by stone, plank by plank.  Those buildings are divided in four sections “Mosel-Eifel”, Pfalz-Rheinhessen”, “Mittelrhein-Westerwald” and “Hunsrueck-Nahe” for the different regions. The half-timbered houses were rebuilt true to the original to enable visitors to step back in time and get a glimpse into day by day life of a long time ago.

Good to know: An Open-Air-Museum is a museum that exhibits collections of buildings and artifacts outdoors. Living-history museums are open air museums where costumed interpreters portray period life in an earlier era. The interpreters act as if they are living in a different time and place and perform everyday household tasks, crafts, and occupations. The goal is to demonstrate older lifestyles and pursuit to modern audiences.
Household tasks might include cooking on an open hearth, churning butter, spinning wool and weaving, and farming without modern equipment. Many living museums feature traditional craftsmen at work, such as a blacksmith, weaver, tanner, armorer, cooper, potter, miller, sawyer, woodcrafter and printer.
